The Private Equity Research Consortium (PERC) convened on Nov 14-15, 2024, in Chapel Hill for the 16th annual research symposium. Over the course of two days, academic researchers and industry practitioners gathered for a discussion of the most pressing issues in private equity.





In keeping with tradition, attendees voted for the Best Paper presented at PERC. This year’s award goes to Sergey Chernenko (Purdue University), Robert Ialenti, (Harvard Business School) and David Scharfstein (Harvard Business School) for their paper “Bank Capital and the Growth of Private Credit” Their paper investigates whether regulatory arbitrage can explain the growth of private credit, focusing on business development companies (BDCs).
